Getting Started With WoW Mining
Right, let’s make a start with WoW Mining and we have listed below the process that you will need to get you going:
1. Mining Training:
Before you can start mining you will need to find your local mining trainer to get trained. We have outlined a list of the most powerful mining trainers and where to find them:
| Yarr Hammerstone | Dun Morogh, Eastern edge of Kharanos | Alliance Trainer |
| Dank Drizzlecut | Dun Morogh, North of Gol’bolbar Quarry | Alliance Trainer |
| Gelman Stonehand | Stormwind, Western end of Dwarven District | Alliance Trainer |
| Kurdram Stonehammer | Darkshore, north Auberdine area | Alliance Trainer |
| Matt Johnson | Duskwood, in the north section of Darkshire | Alliance Trainer |
| Brock Stoneseeker | Loch Modan, Southwest part of Thelsamar | Alliance Trainer |
| Brom Killian | Undercity, South of the bridge leading to War Quarter | Horde Trainer |
| Geofram Bouldertoe | Deepmountain Mining Guild in Ironforge | Alliance Trainer |
| Makaru | Orgrimmar, center of the valley of honor | Horde Trainer |
| Brek Stonehoof | Thunder Bluff, Western edge of the center plateau | Horde Trainer |
After you have successfully passed your training you will be granted the very powerful “Find Minerals” button on your task bar allowing you more precision in your mining activities.
2. Mining Pick:
To find the minerals and ores you will need a pick to start digging for them which can be easily purchased from a local trade merchant which are located nearby your trainer. Bear in mind that some picks can also be “enchanted”, which basically makes it glow when you equip it like a normal weapon. Many people like this feature as its quite cool!
3. Gloves:
It is recommended that you purchase Gloves. The best way to do this is to find the lowest cost gloves you can locate and then get them enchanted with +5 mining skill. This will cost you not more that 2g.

4. Finding a Mineral or Ore Vein:
Even with the powerful “Find Minerals” button you will need to be careful of its use as it can point to locations above or below your current position. The best places to search are Caves, Quests Areas Mountainous Areas and Mines. You will need to have a careful eye and attention to detail if you are going to be successful, so don’t expect to find these veins randomly.
There are many minerals and ores which have been listed below together with the skill level. However bear in mind that at first you will only find Copper and as soon as you advance in your mining skill and character levels, more rewarding items can be found, such as Thorium.

Wow Mining Guide – Copper mining 1-65
We have outlined the first 65 for Copper in the following section which will help you build a firm foundation for advancing further. As Copper is one of the most abundant finds it is recommend that you smelt it with other ores and minerals to create new metals. For example Bronze is made from smelting Tin and Copper. Steel is made by smelting Coal and Iron. Once you learn this new ability to create new minerals your mining skill, character rank and money all increase. You can use any of the following mining routes to help you find the different minerals and ores to enhance your smelting skills:
Mining Locations:
- Alterac Mountains
- Ashenvale
- Darkshore
- Desolace
- Dun Morogh
- Durotar
- Duskwood
- Elwynn Forest
- Hillsbrad Foothills
- Loch Modan
- Mulgore
- Redridge Mountains
- Silverpine Forest
- Stonetalon Mountains
- The Barrens
- Thousand Needles, Tirisfal Glades, Westfall, and Wetlands
Horde
- Tauren Mulgore:
- At this location you can simply choose any starting point and then follow the cliffs all the way around. Remember that you will need to visit the Venture Co mine where you can get about 40-50 copper on this run.
- Orc and Troll:
- We would advise that completing whole circuits of Durotar is the easiest method for collecting Copper as there is so much around. You may find it more fun to start at Razor Hill and move west towards the Quilboar grounds, hugging the cliff face until you reach the river and then move up north till you reach Orgrimmar. Then travel east till you see a small farmstead, continue to head south and drop into the canyon. If you follow the canyon out and head south east, you will reach razor hill again. At the end of this way then you will have about 25-30 copper ores with you!
- Undead:
- Start at the entrance of DeathKnell and head south to follow the cliffs all the way round and past the Undercity, up to the Bulwark. When you get here head up north to Scarlet Monastery, hugging the cliffs as you go. Move west when you reach the coast, then south to follow the cliffs down to Agamand Mills. After that follow those hills south again back to the entrance of Deathknell. You should get about 30-40 copper ore from this run.
Alliance
- Night Elves:
- Darnassus has no ores at all, so you must go to Darkshore. Start at Auberdine and the go east till you reach the cliffs at the top of the map. Now move southwards, hug the cliff face as move. Upon arriving at the entrance of Ashenvale, move west to the coast then north back to Auberdine. Now go east, just like before, except this time when you arrive at the cliffs, head northwards, following the cliffs round the coast heading south again to Auberdine. This is a figure 8 pattern and you’ll find it easily than taking Auberdine in one whole route. You’ll get about 40-50 copper ores from this.
- Dwarves and Gnomes:
- Copper is located everywhere, so you really don’t need a route here. Just keep digging and you’ll be happy!
- Human:
- Beginning at Goldshire and heading east to the north of Crystal Lake, when you arrive at the north of the logging camp, go south. Follow the river to the border of Duskwood and Elwyn Forest, then move North West and return to Goldshire. If you visit at least 2 mines on this trek, you’ll get about 30-40 copper ores.
By following my 1-65 Wow Mining Guide, you will have amassed a great deal of copper allowing you to smelt and make more money and status for yourself. Now you are ready to quickly move onto 66 and above which is covered in full detail in the Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide below:
